1997年5月，喻继高应美国纽约联合国总部文委会邀请在总部大厅举办画展。文委会副秘书长塔拉迪向喻继高颁发奖牌，表彰他在中国绘画上取得的卓越成就，以及对世界文化交流作出的杰出贡献。美俄友好协会纽约分会会长也向喻继高颁发奖状。来自世界各地的官员们第一次欣赏到如此工丽高雅的工笔花鸟作品，皆表现出极大的热情。展览期间，来自五大洲的朋友纷纷向喻继高祝贺，嘉宾们留下了签名、观感，如“美丽，画中的世界寂静而充满活力”(内雅那•海尔)“感谢你，与你同享生命的快乐”(罗伯特•杰•邦西洛克)等。联合国官员纳希德•哈昆握着喻继高的手，发自内心地提出:“你的绘画精美绝伦，掌握了表现大自然的完美形式，我希望你能留在纽约教学。”纽约州立大学珠宝设计专业教授在展览会上转悠了三个多小时，在喻继高面前欲言又止，最后道出了心声:“我有句话不吐不快，你收不收学生?我想拜你为师。”中国驻联合国全权大使亲自在画展开幕会上致词，并设宴招待喻继高夫妇。
In May 1997, Mr. Yu Jigao was invited by the Cultural Commission of the United Nations in New York to hold an exhibition of his paintings in the lobby of the Headquarters. Mr. Taradi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Commission, presented Mr. Yu Jigao with a medal in recognition of his outstanding achievements in Chinese painting and his contribution to cultural exchanges around the world. The president of the New York branch of the American-Russian Friendship Association also presented Mr. Yu Jigao with the award. Officials from all over the world showed great enthusiasm as they admired such beautiful and elegant works of artisan birds and flowers for the first time. During the exhibition, friends from five continents congratulated Mr. Yu Jigao, and guests wrote autographs and impressions. ("The beautiful, painted world is silent and vibrant" ——Neyana•Hale. "Thank you for sharing the joy of life with you"——Robert• Jay•Bonsilock) United Nations official Nahid K. holding Mr. Yu Jigao's hand, said from the bottom of his heart, "Your paintings are exquisite, and you have mastered the perfect form of expressing nature. I hope you'll stay in New York and teach." The SUNY jewelry design professor wandered around the exhibition for more than three hours, talking endlessly in front of Mr. Yu Jigao, and finally said I have something to say: “do you accept students? I want to be your student!” The Plenipotentiary Ambassador of China to the United Nations delivered a speech at the opening of the exhibition and hosted a banquet for Mr. and Mrs. Yu.
