Preface
Mr. Yu Jigao--master of contemporary Chinese realistic flower-and -bird Painting, who's art is inherited from the two great masters--Fu Baoshi and Chen Zhifo, blended the ancient and modern times, adopted the long and broad views of the public, gathered the greatest achievements, and created an extraordinary monument in the history of Chinese realistic painting.
From my perspective, there are three words that can express the most direct feeling of Mr. Yu's painting: grandiose, righteous, and jubilant.
The feeling of grandiosity is the pattern of the painting. Whether it's a beautiful bird, a stream of water, an auspicious cloud, a sunset, a stone, or a bright moon, he is in tune with the order of spring and autumn externally and develops a sense of righteousness inside.
The feeling of righteousness is the soul of the painting. Mr. Yu's flower-and-bird paintings are fine in appearance and spirit, neither strange nor bizarre, neither nor vulgar, with bright and beautiful flowers, vibrant birds, and vivid charm. The clarity of the heart reveals the upright soul, the uplifting spirit, the righteousness, the unity of heaven and earth, the greatness, and the firmness.
The feeling of jubilance is the implication of the painting. Mr. Yu is well versed in the way of harmony. He is good at combining birds and flowers into present auspiciousness in his paintings. For example, the lotus pond, double cranes over the waves, pear blossom and spring rain, white jade branch, plum and chrysanthemum, a peacock in spring, cold jade and spring sunshine, magnolia and peace, white feather drunken wind, Qiong flowers gathering fairy, crane welcoming the spring, far-sighted, not anger, not rage, not decadence. No
Grandiose, Righteous, and Jubilant matter inside and outside of the painting, the shape is auspicious.Pattern, with spirit, form and meaning are the core elements of the painting. Mr. Yu's paintings can be described as grandiose patterns, righteous spirits, and jubilant shapes. Ancient sage--Mencius once said: "Qi is the fullness of the body.” Only when the three elements are united will a masterpiece be created.
Zhang Yanyuan, a great painter of Chinese Tang Dynasty, once said:" Painting is a way to cultivate the people, to help humans establish morality, to help change the spirit, to measure the subtleties, to work with the six meridians, and to develop the natural world. It is not made by the description." Chinese realistic painting, with a very long and far-reaching history, is a treasure of Chinese culture. It contains the essence of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, impregnated with the aspirations of the Chinese people, and accumulated precipitation for many years. It is unique in the world of painting, worthy of in-depth exploration and perpetual inheritance.
Founded in 1983, Shenzhen University has grown up together with the Special Administrative Region and enjoys a reputation as one of the world's most progressive universities. Following the characteristics of the Special Administrative Region University, windowing University, and the Experimental University, its mission is to provide cultural leadership, cultural heritage, cultural innovation, and cultural outreach. The establishment of the Yu Jigao Chinese realistic painting academy of Shenzhen University aims to explore the aesthetic ideas, artistic philosophy, and cultural spirit of Chinese paintings and calligraphy. By systematically organizing the history of the development of Chinese painting and art, cultivating relevant research and creative talent, to build the Academy into a representative institute for the inheritance and innovation of Chinese painting.
Recently, there is good news that the central authorities have decided to support Shenzhen to build an early demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which is a great benefit for the development of Shenzhen University. We all are looking forward to seeing the Institute take advantage of the east wind and set sail far away.
